Pumpkin Walk

We went to the "Pumpkin Walk" in Syracuse last night. I had heard about it last year from some people and it sounded really fun, so we thought we would go down and see all of the pumpkins! The problem was that everyone in Northern Utah had the same idea! We had to wait in a pretty long line before we actually got to the pumpkins, but it was really fun to see all of them once we got there. There were hundreds and hundreds of them!! There were all different kinds...lots of faces, some monsters, cats, and the usual Halloween stuff, and some with very random things on them like temples or video game characters or college logos. The batteries in my camera died on the first picture (bummer!), so I tried to take some with my phone. I couldn't take any pictures of the kids (no flash), but the pumpkins showed up ok. Here were some of our favorites:
I loved this one of Jack Skellington:
Tigger!
Preston liked the one with "Pi" on it....get it? Pumpkin Pi? Heee.
ANIMAL!
I liked this tower of pumpkins too:

Arden liked all the Disney ones. There was Mickey and Donald and the whole gang:

Arden had a good time, even though we didn't get finished until WAY after bedtime. Daxton slept through quite a bit, but he woke up in the middle of the pumpkins and seemed to really enjoy them. It was fun, but next year we will show up earlier and hopefully beat some of the crowd!

We are getting really excited for Halloween this week! HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!

Quirks and Cornbellies

It has been a loooong week! Preston was out of town (again), but with a few playdates and some help from my sister and my parents, we made it through!! I am so lucky to have family and friends around who are always willing to play with a 2 1/2 year-old that NEVER holds still or runs out of energy. Thanks!

Preston got back on Friday night, so on Saturday we decided to do something fun! It was a beee-yoooutiful day, so we decided to play outside. We went up to Cornbellies at Thanksgiving Point. Arden had a blast and ran us all ragged. There were toys to bounce on, things to climb, a huge haystack pile with slippery slides, some corn mazes, a little haunted house, a cow train, and all sorts of fun things for little kids to do. Here are some pictures of our adventure:

Here we are playing in the corn maze! Arden filled her pockets up with corn (something I didn't learn until we were getting her in her jammies that night and corn spilled everywhere when I took off her jeans).

Here is Preston pulling the kids through the maze in a wagon. We just went through the kiddie maze, which took us a good 20 minutes because we let Arden choose which way we went (well, until we got tired of going in circles).

Here is me and Arden going down the slide! She wanted me to come with her the first time or two, but after that she was fine by herself.

Here is Daxton just hangin' in his car seat. He was a good sport most of the day, and enjoyed being outside.

Here is Arden and Preston in the cow train! It was fun watching Preston try to get into and out of the train...sorry I have no video :)

All of us in front of the pumpkin tree. It would have been fun to see what it looked like at night, but we were tooooo tired to stick around and find out.

It was a fun day. Preston has to go out of town again this week, so that is a bummer for me, but hopefully his travelling will slow down soon! We miss him when he is gone!!!

My sister Amanda tagged me a while ago, and I am supposed to post 6 quirks about myself. So, here goes:

1. I change the radio stations in the car constantly. I pretty much drive with one hand on the wheel and the other on the radio buttons. It drives me crazy to listen to talking or commercials in the car, and I am always convinced there is a better song on a different station.

2. I go through sunglasses like crazy. I leave them EVERYWHERE. I usually have to buy two pairs at a time. Over the summer my sister-in-law gave me back three pairs I had left at her house, and I was so happy because I was just about ready to go buy more....but now I only have one pair left again.

3. I am afraid of dolls. Not stuffed animals, just dolls that are supposed to look like humans. Especially if they talk or move. Puppets too. I am worried they will start talking to me in the middle of the night.

4. I check my blog at least once a day to see if anyone has left me any comments. So, if you are one of those people who read my blog and never leave me a comment (you know who you are), be a pal and leave one. It makes my day.

5. I have a very sensitive gag reflex. I can't get x-rays at the dentist without gagging. I can't watch any shows where people are eating gross stuff because that makes me gag too.

6. I can't eat meat in the morning. No bacon, no sausage, definitely no steak & eggs. Even the smell of it in the morning grosses me out. I have lots of other meat quirks too (I can't eat meat off of a bone...I love to eat fish, but can't eat tuna...I can only eat a hot dog if I am actually at a baseball game, etc.).

Okay, now I tag Jayme, Shelly and Shauna (anyone else who feels quirky can play too.)

Pumpkins!!

Last Friday night we headed out to a pumpkin patch in Farmington to pick out our pumpkins!

It was coooold! We put Arden and Daxton in the pumpkin cart and headed out:
We all found a pumpkin we liked (probably faster than we would have if it was warm). Then, Arden ran through the hay bale maze a few times:
It was a fun (but quick) adventure! Then we headed to Jake's for dinner and pumpkin pie shakes! Yum!

Today was the first day that Daxton really enjoyed eating solid foods. He isn't a fan of rice cereal, and doesn't seem to like bananas either. So, today we tried sweet potatoes, and he LOVED them. Here is the happy, messy boy.

Little Milestones

This last week has brought to us a few little milestones! First, now that Dax is 4 months old, we decided to try and start feeding him solid foods. Preston made me wait until he got back from his business trip, so finally, on Saturday, we broke out the baby rice cereal! Here is Daxton's response:

He wasn't too big of a fan, obviously. He pretty much spit out everything I put into his mouth after that! We tried again with mashed bananas, and he liked those a little bit better, but he still would MUCH rather just have his bottle. I am sure he will get used to the idea sooner or later. Then, on Sunday, Dax rolled over. He had been really close for a couple of weeks, but right before he went over he would always stop. On Sunday he finally made it all the way over! We made a big deal out of it and told him what a good boy he was, and so he decided he wanted to do it again! We put him back on his belly a few times, and each time he rolled right over! As soon as we busted out the video camera, he seemed to forget how to do it quickly, but here is some exciting and action-filled footage of Daxton rolling over for your enjoyment:

Arden also had her own little milestone. We usually try (key word: TRY) to have family home evening on Monday nights. With Arden's attention span, our average family home evening usually lasts about 10 minutes, and 8 of those minutes are spent trying to get Arden to hold still. After our "lesson" (and I use that term very loosely) Arden decided she wanted to say the closing prayer all by herself. She grabbed Daxton's little arms to help him fold them, and did a great job without ANY help. Here is how the prayer went, as near as I can remember:

"Dear Hevy Fader, Tank you for day. Tank you for famawee. Tank you for eateen food, and pizza! Tank you for Dax, and playing wif Dax. Tank you for Mommy, and Dax, and Dada, and Dax. Tank you for Dax. Tank you for Mewanee (Meloni, her birth mother) and Dax, and Hevy Fader, tank you for day, and famawee, and Dax. Amen!"

Sooooo cute. Preston and me were trying so hard not to laugh through the whole thing, but I really was proud of her! Though, I have to admit I was a little jealous that she said so many thank yous for Daxton, and only one for mommy. I guess I should be glad I made it in there at all :).
