Last Day of School!

The last day of school finally came!

The kids all LOVED their teachers this year (Arden loved her Harry Potter-themed class this year with Mrs. Parker.  Dax loved being sort-of-related to his awesome teacher Mrs. Potter, and Cora thought her teacher Mrs. Price was the best and nicest ever!)  Even though the kids loved their teachers, they were still juuust a little excited for the summertime to finally be here:
I love this picture.

I am so glad they are so excited for summer.  I, myself, am a little more apprehensive about how we will all survive the summer without too much fighting/whining/destruction of the house.  I also kind of hate seeing school end as it is just another stepping stone to growing up (Arden has only one more year of elementary!  Yikes!).  But there is nothing I can do to stop time, so summer here we come!  We will figure it out and hopefully have some fun along the way.  Happy summer everyone!

Daxton's 9th Birthday

Dax's birthday was a few weeks ago.  He started out with whatever he wanted for breakfast, which again this year was french toast from Kneaders.  This year he easily took down the adult portion and looked around for more.  Preston picked him up from school and took him out to lunch, so that was pretty fun for him. After school I got him to pose for some birthday pictures.  Here he is with his "birthday bear."  I can't believe how small that that bear is getting!
I don't know if he feels silly holding up the teddy bear or what, but he would only pull kind of weird faces (like the one above) while holding the bear.  That doesn't really make much sense, since Dax still has a special fondness for stuffed animals...but I couldn't get a real smile out of him until he switched out the teddy bear for a basketball.
I think part of the problem was that as soon as I was done taking his picture we were going to head out to dinner, and of course he got to pick the place.  And where would you choose if you could choose anywhere in the world to eat if you were a growing 9-year old boy?  Somewhere where you could get unlimited amounts of pizza, of course.  Pizza Pie Cafe!

They had dessert pizzas there, which is at least half of the reason Dax chose the place.  Since I knew he was going to be eating at least 5 slices of dessert pizza, we just decided to bring the birthday candle along with us and save the cake for his party the next week.  Cheese!
Dax really wanted to have his party at the movies this year, especially when he found out that the "Captain Underpants" movie was starting the week after his birthday.  For those of you who may not be a boy of Cub Scout age, Captain Underpants is a series of books about a couple of friends who write a comic book about a superhero named Captain Underpants (because what could be funnier than a hero wearing tightie-whities if you are a cub scout), and through various unlikely shenanigans and events, their hero comes to life.  Before the movie we had cake outside and Dax opened some presents:
Here are the boys in front of the Captain Underpants poster.
I wasn't sure if the other boys had read the books like Dax had.  However, during the movie, there is a line that goes "Its a bird.....It's a plane....." and I was pretty surprised when quite a few of the boys yelled along with the rest of the line "....It's an egg-salad sandwich!"  Huh.  I guess they have read the books.

Anyway, here are a few things about Dax the nine-year-old:

Favorite color:  Red (like the U of U)
Favorite show:  Jurassic Park
Favorite Food:  Pizza, but really he likes most everything.
Favorite Treat:  Brownies
Favorite Song:  Currently it is "Believers" by Imagine Dragons
Favorite Things to Do:  Wake up early, play with dinosaurs, tease Cora.
Least Favorite Things to Do:  Anything the first time I ask, Do anything slowly and carefully.

Happy Birthday Dax!!

Cora's Baptism Day

Cora was baptized the first week of June.  She chose her dress online, and I was a little worried that she wouldn't like it as much in real life, but she loved it!  It was beautiful, and so is she!
I made her wander around the yard and get some pictures taken.  She wanted to get one of her smelling a rose (which is her favorite flower).  The light angle wasn't cooperating, but it still looks pretty.
I love this one, she looks so sweet:
I did her hair pulled back so we wouldn't have to blow it dry or anything after her baptism, and it worked like a charm.  She loved the little flowers I got for her to put in her bun.  She was one excited girl!
I made her and Preston pose for one picture before everything started.  Aren't they cute?
Cora had chosen the songs ("I love to look for rainbows," "I'm Trying to Be Like Jesus," and "If the Savior Stood Beside Me") and sang along to all of them so sweetly.  She also asked Daxton to say the opening prayer and he did a great job!  (Arden was too shy to speak, but she handed out the programs).  Cora asked her grandmothers both to speak, and they did a perfect job.  Everything went perfectly, and it was such a special feeling.  I can't believe my baby is really eight years old!!  I'm so proud of her!
