Cora's Seventh Birthday

A couple of days after Grandma's birthday, it was Cora's turn!  She is SEVEN!  As usual, I told her she could have anything she wanted for breakfast.  She chose going TO Kneaders.  We had to get up a little early, but everyone was down with that, and I will use any excuse to get the Cinnamon bread french toast, so off we went.  Happy Birthday Breakfast little girl!
After that, it was off to school and work as usual.  But Cora was excited because when you are in first grade they make a big deal out of you.

Later that day we let her open her presents from us.  She was pretty excited that she got some...MAKE UP!  Who doesn't love bright yellow eye shadow?
After she opened a couple more little presents, she decided she wanted to go to Texas Roadhouse for dinner!
We ate so many rolls that by the time our food came we weren't really hungry, but that is pretty much par for the course for us.  Cora for some reason didn't want to sit on the saddle, and even looked all embarrassed by her Texas-size YEE-HAW.  Wha??  Oh well.

We headed home after that and quickly took some pictures with Cora's lamb to see how big she is now.  I obviously let her choose her own clothes now, and she has her own...um...sense of style:
 Pretty big!
But still kinda little.

Finally, we finished the day off with CAKE!
 Make a wish!
Cora copied Arden (shocker!) and had a very small birthday party at Build A Bear with one lucky friend.  It was verrrrry hard for Cora to choose just one buddy, and I hope no one's feelings got hurt!  Cora had a fun time.  Her friend K and her chose the same toy, but (after lots and lots of deliberation) dressed them very differently.

Here are a few things about Cora the seven-year-old:

Favorite Color:  Pink (but it seems to change every day)
Favorite Show:  Sophia the First
Favorite Food:  Pizza
Favorite Treat:  Donuts
Favorite Song:  "No" by Meghan Trainor
Favorite things to do:  Play with friends, do art, play soccer, help mom make treats.
Least favorite things to do:  Go to sleep and/or stay sleeping in her own room.
Favorite thing about school:  Her teacher!
Least favorite thing about school:  Homework

Cora was recently front-and-center of her class picture, which is the exact opposite of where I used to stand in my class pictures.  She has her own ideas about how things should be and is pretty vocal and sometimes stubborn, but she is like a sour patch kid.  Maybe a little sour sometimes, but very sweet at her core.  I am so not excited that she keeps on having these birthdays and getting bigger and older, but I haven't figured a way to stop it yet so I just keep rolling with the punches as best I can.

Happy Birthday my not-so-little CorbieCakes!

Catch-up - Happy 95th Grandma!

My Grandma turned 95 years old last week!  We dropped in to wish her a happy birthday and she shared some cake with us.
She had lots of flowers that family and friends had already brought by, and she seemed to be having a good day!  She is so sweet.  Happy Birthday Grandma...and many mooooore!

Catch-Up - Cabin

Whoa, it has been a while.  I better try and catch up.  After Arden was sick and sick in the last post, she started feeling a tiny bit better on Thursday night.  Her fever went down, and she could sit up and watch TV and actually ate a little food and generally looked less like a zombie.  The other two kids still seemed miraculously fine.  So, on Friday we decided to salvage a little bit of spring break and head to the cabin.

It had snowed before we got there, and a little was still on the ground, but the sun was SHINING!  Oh, it felt gooood to be out of the house after our week of staring at the walls.

On Saturday morning I got to go on a long run in the beautiful sunshine.  It was so nice to run at the lake without freezing!  After that we watched conference and mostly hung out inside, but in the afternoon the kids were getting a little bit of cabin fever so we decided to go say hello to the beach after its long winter sleep.

Here is Arden, actually standing up!
The other two kids and the dog.  Amazingly, nobody got (seriously) wet.  It was a beautiful, calm day.

Dax drew this heart in the sand.  He told me it says "I love you mom" in the middle, so I took a picture of it!
Cora collected a bunch of the teeny tiny seashells that can be found at the lake.

We also played at the park for a while before heading back to the cabin.  We had a fun outing, and I think my mom and dad and Val (who were also enjoying conference weekend at the cabin) enjoyed the the quiet while we were gone.

On Sunday was more conference, more crafts, more games, and then cleaning up and going home.  It was a short and fairly uneventful trip, but we had fun anyway.  We made it home, and put the kids to bed on time, since spring break was officially over and they had school the next day.

Then right after I fell asleep that night, Cora woke me up and told me she didn't feel good.  I touched her head and could tell right away she had a fever.

Great.

She was sick for the next few days and stayed home from school even longer!  It was easier and quieter though, since Arden and Dax were at least out of the house being "entertained" at school.  Daxton somehow dodged the bullet and never got sick, thank heavens.  Just the girls got it, but it knocked both of them DOWN, and Arden probably took two full weeks to get back to her regular self.

Now spring has sprung and I hope that the season of sickness has passed (knock on wood!)
