Dax's birthday this year fell during Memorial Day weekend, so...we were at the cabin. We promised Dax he could have a party with his friends "later," so he was okay. He was pretty happy actually, especially since he got to choose what he got for breakfast. He chose "bacon." Not "bacon and eggs," or "bacon and pancakes," just "bacon." After I told him 14 pieces of bacon is actually probably not a good breakfast, he decided he would have something along with his bacon: a bowl of Grandma's Captain Crunch. Oh good. Breakfast of Champions. He looks happy though:

He had been dying to open his presents, so we let him do it right after breakfast. I know the boy is growing up, but he still has a soft spot for fuzzy toys. This is the new addition to his collection, "Scraps." I also got him a book about birds, which is his current favorite subject.

The whole weekend wasn't quite the "kickoff to summer" we had been hoping for, and it rained every day. Not all day, but it didn't get above 60 degrees. Too cold for swimming or wave running, but we still ventured out on some walks:
With our umbrellas, of course:Sometimes the sun would peak out a little, and everything was so GREEN, since this was the rainiest May I can remember:
In the afternoon, some blue sky was out, so the kids tried out the kites Grandpa brought up for them:
They are hard to see, but they got up there pretty far!
We had the obligatory cake right before we headed home. Make a wish, boy!
We stopped at Firehouse Pizza in Logan on our way home, and by the time we pulled in the driveway, it was bedtime, so I didn't get these birthday bear pictures until the next day. It seems like that too long ago when Dax was the same size as this bear:
Remember?
Now he is HUGE!
Things were crazy during the days following Dax's birthday. It was the last few days of school, there were final soccer games, gymnastics shows, field trips, friend birthday parties, graduations, etc. etc., so we didn't end up having Dax's friend party until the last day of school, June 4th. We decided to go to the movies. The only "kid" movie playing was "Tomorrowland." So off we went. Dax opened his presents before the show. Dinosaurs are still a favorite:
Here are the crazies who were now going to get pumped up with sugar and told to sit still for 2+ hours:
They did great for the first half of the movie, but even I will admit that they could have edited "Tomorrowland" down by 20 or 30 minutes and we all would have been fine. I had to throw out a few "SHHHH!"s when the action slowed down, and there were inevitably a couple of kids who had to use the facilities, but we made it through alive.
Here are some things about Dax the 7-year-old:
Favorite color: Green (still!)
Favorite food: Pizza (still!)
Favorite movie: Big Hero 6
Favorite TV show: Teen Titans Go, Austin & Ally (he has to watch this a lot because Arden loves it, but Dax thinks the character named "Dez" is hilarious.
Favorite breakfast: Cereal (he loves LIFE and Mini Wheats, but much prefers any sugary cereal (Captain Crunch, Trix) he can get since we don't usually have any of those at home.
Favorite school subject: Recess (duh)
Favorite animal: Birds, specifically Cardinals.
Favorite things to do: Ride his bike, play with friends, read books
Other things Dax likes: Singing songs he made up about Olive, our dog "Ollie-wollllie-eee!," eating, getting up early in the mornings, eating, using all his quarters in the pencil machine at school, and eating, being LOUD, eating.
Things Dax doesn't like: Going more than an hour or two without eating, cleaning up after the dog, waiting for ANYTHING, especially food.

He is gonna be a giant. I see scholarships in his future based on size alone... So, you know, bring on the sugary cereal and the BACON!!!!
